Meet Michel Gondry's Family: 'Thorn in the Heart' Trailer

Meet Michel Gondry's Family: 'Thorn in the Heart' Trailer: "thorn-in-the-heart-trailer.jpg

Hey, it's the trailer for The Thorn in the Heart, Michel Gondry's documentary about some of his family. Does it include semi-invisible children? Yes, of course it does:

Just as Michael Moore created controversy in some circles for mixing documentation with video essay, Michel Gondry shall create controversy for mixing documentation with whatever is going on in Michel Gondry's brain."

Spike Jonze Says Leaked Kanye West Film Wasn't Finished

Spike Jonze Says Leaked Kanye West Film Wasn't Finished: "

In 'We Were Once a Fairytale', the Spike Jonze-directed short film set to Kanye West's 'See You in My Nightmares', hit the internet earlier this week. Kanye's blog posted it, but pretty soon after, it was removed. (You can still watch it here, though.)

Talking to The New York Times' Arts Beat blog, Jonze said that the version that leaked online wasn't finished and that the real version will be out on iTunes this Tuesday, October 27. Talking about how the video ended up on Kanye's blog, Jonze said that he didn't believe Kanye knew the leaked version was unfinished: 'I think he was like, 'Oh, it's out. I'll link to it.''

Jonze also told the Times a bit about the ideas behind the piece. According to the Times, the film was meant to 'illustrate the themes of loss and isolation on 808s & Heartbreak.' Jonze said, 'We rehearsed the night before we shot, and talked about trying to get to that raw place, that sad, pathetic, drunken, lost place. I told him, the more shameless it is, the more pathetic it is, the better. He just went for it.'

Jonze spoke about his relationship with Kanye, saying, 'To me, I like him. I like Kanye and I care about him. This video is a side of him. Who knows? I don't know what the reception is going to be, but I love making stuff with him. I love the guy.'

Jonze isn't worried that Kanye's MTV Awards freakout will affect 'We Were Once a Fairytale''s perception. Rather, his biggest worry is that the leak will cut into iTunes sales and the film won't break even: 'I don't actually know if that makes any business sense at all, because once it's out there, it's out there.'

Also, I don't know if you guys know this, but Jonze also directed a little movie called Where the Wild Things Are. He talked to Pitchfork about it here.

Les Fantômes of Céline Artigau

Les Fantômes of Céline Artigau: "I’ve seen a lot of very exciting things coming from combining photographic imagery with illustration recently.
I’m keen on the simple ‘neon’ characters French artist Céline Artigau brings to life in the form of les fantômes, or the ghosts. This series points to the potential for so many fun things one can do in mixing the [...]"
